Price Estimator’s 5-Dimensional Risk Score

Lytica’s SupplyLens™ Pro platform is the world’s largest independent source of electronic component peer pricing and risk intelligence data. By analyzing millions of real-world prices paid by our customers, Lytica has unprecedented market insight that is not available from internet aggregators or distributor websites. The SupplyLens™ Pro Price Estimator plugin provides up-to-date electronic component peer market pricing and features our unique 5 Dimensional Risk Score, including:

1. MPN Breadth

MPN Breadth represents the popularity of a Manufacturing Part Number (MPN) within our global database of peer market intelligence.

If the MPN is used by many of our customers, it would be of high popularity and therefore ‘Low Risk’.  The more companies in the market using the part would mean that the part is at a lower risk of going End of Life.  If the MPN has a low popularity within our database then we would tag the MPN as ‘High Risk’ due to the fact that not many companies are using this part.

2. Manufacturer Breadth

Manufacturer Breadth represents the popularity of the Manufacturer within our global database of peer market intelligence.

If the Manufacturer is used by many of our customers, they would be popular and therefore ‘Low Risk’.  The more companies in the market using the Manufacturer would mean that the Manufacturer is probably at a lower risk of going out of business.  If the Manufacturer has a low popularity within our database then we would tag the MPN as ‘High Risk’ due to the fact that not many companies are using this Manufacturer.

3. Due Diligence

A weighted risk metric based on the number of Fortune 1000 & Global 2000 companies (clients) vs. other companies using a Manufacturer within our global database of peer market intelligence.

Our premise is that Fortune 1000 and Global 2000 companies have very stringent qualification processes for components and manufacturers.   The more Fortune 1000 and Global 2000 companies in the market using a manufacturer’s component indicates that a high level of due diligence has been applied to those parts.  The absence of large multi-national companies using a part is troubling and suggest s a higher level of risk on this part.  Our due diligence score is based on the number of fortune 1000 and Global 2000 companies in our database using the part.

4. MPN Concentration

The MPN Concentration risk is determined by the number of companies making up the majority of the total estimated annual usage of a component in our database.

Lytica sees high risk in components where there is a high concentration of the usage by very few companies. For example, if one company is buying 90% of the global demand for a part and that company changes their design to a new component, the users of the remaining 10% are in jeopardy. This metric provides a level of assurance to avoid concentration risk.

5. Lifecycle

Represents the life stage of an MPN and provides alternatives if they exist for the given MPN within our global database.

Lytica has lifecycle data source partners and makes use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to accelerate our data collection. Our advanced technology efforts enable us to accurately provide lifecycle information on many of our components.

“What are the risk identifiers for each metric?”

• Low Risk

• Moderate Low Risk

• Moderate High Risk

• High Risk

• Unable to Determine Risk

“What makes up the Overall Risk metric?”

The overall risk metric represents the overall combined risk of the original Manufacturer Part Number searched taking into account the other 5 dimensional risk variables listed above.

“How are the 5 dimensional risk scores weighted for the Overall Risk?”

All of the dimensions are equal except Lifecycle. Lifecycle is weighted at more than double any other dimension.  Also, if Lifecycle = Obsolete then the overall risk score is automatically red.  If we don’t have any Lifecycle information, then the weighting of the other four dimensions increases but they remain equal to each other.

“Does Price Estimator suggest MPN alternatives?”

Yes! Price Estimator will suggest up to five (5) FFF (form, fit and function) equivalents for each MPN searched.  The alternative MPNs provided will list the Manufacturer Part Number, Manufacturer and Lifecycle.

Price Estimator is only based on real customer data. Distribution column pricing, manufacturer suggested pricing and internet pricing are not part of our database or used in any statistical models. How easy is it? Simply enter a Manufacturing Part Number (MPN) to unlock the true competitive advantages of this plugin – market pricing, lifecycle, alternatives and component risk information.
