Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM)

An original equipment manufacturer makes the components used in another company’s end product. In other words, it is the company behind the brand name of a product that was designed, manufactured, marketed, and provided customer support for its electronic components.

An example of an OEM includes computer manufacturers. Computer manufacturers commonly bundle or integrate OEM parts into the electronic solutions/equipment they sell, including processors and software.

Many OEM manufacturing activities are currently being outsourced to electronic manufacturing services (EMS).
